Seville Weather by Month

Spain › Andalusia › Seville

Seville sits in the Guadalquivir River valley in southern Spain’s Andalusia region, where summer temperatures rank among the highest of any European city. The city’s inland location, 80km from the Atlantic coast, means no cooling sea breezes to offset the intense Spanish sun.

July and August regularly exceed 35°C (95°F), with the all-time record of 46.6°C (116°F) set in July 2023. Winters are mild and relatively dry. This month-by-month guide uses 30-year averages from Seville Airport (SVQ) to help you plan around the city’s two defining characteristics: extreme summer heat and mild, pleasant winters.

January Weather in Seville: Mild Winter Days

January delivers comfortable daytime highs of 16°C (61°F) with overnight lows dropping to 6°C (43°F). Rain falls on about 6 days totaling 66mm. Humidity sits at 79%. You’ll get 5 hours of daily sun. The orange trees lining Seville’s streets are heavy with fruit. This is one of the quietest months for tourism. Pack a warm jacket for evenings but you’ll likely need only a light sweater during sunny afternoons. Hotel prices are at their annual minimum.

February: Warming Trend with Almond Blossoms

February highs reach 18°C (64°F) with lows of 7°C (45°F). Rain decreases to 50mm over 5 days. The countryside around Seville begins blooming with almond trees. This is still low season with manageable crowds and affordable Seville accommodation prices. You’ll need a jacket but can often eat outdoors at lunchtime. The city starts preparing for Semana Santa preparations in the churches and workshops.

March Weather in Seville: Spring Arrives Early

March brings highs of 22°C (72°F) and lows of 10°C (50°F). Rain drops to 42mm over 5 days. Humidity falls to 65%. This is when Seville’s outdoor terraces fill up. If Easter (Semana Santa) falls in March, the city transforms with religious processions and hotel prices quadruple.

Check the Seville events calendar for exact dates. Outside of Easter week, March offers excellent weather-to-crowd ratio.

April: Feria Season and Perfect Temperatures

April delivers highs of 24°C (75°F) and lows of 12°C (54°F). Rain totals 57mm over 6 days. The Feria de Abril (April Fair) typically runs two weeks after Easter, filling the Real de la Feria with casetas, flamenco dresses, and horse carriages. This is Seville’s most expensive and crowded period.

Book everything 6+ months ahead if your dates coincide with Feria. The weather is near-perfect for outdoor events with 8 hours of daily sun. See the best time to visit Seville guide for navigating Feria dates.

May: The Last Comfortable Month Before Summer Heat

May brings highs of 28°C (82°F) and lows of 15°C (59°F). Rain drops to 34mm over just 4 days. Sun hours reach 10 daily. This is the last month before the furnace opens. Outdoor dining, rooftop bars, and riverfront walks remain pleasant throughout the day.

The city’s jasmine and orange blossom scent peaks. Feria sometimes falls in early May depending on Easter dates. This is many locals’ favorite month in Seville. Seville attractions are busy but not yet at summer peak.

June: Summer Heat Takes Hold

June temperatures spike to 33°C (91°F) highs with lows of 19°C (66°F). Rain drops to just 13mm over 2 days. The sun blazes for 11 hours daily. By mid-June, daytime sightseeing requires strategy: museums and the cathedral in the afternoon (air conditioned), outdoor exploration in the morning and evening.

The siesta becomes a survival mechanism, not a cultural quirk. This is when you’ll appreciate booking a hotel with a pool. Check Seville neighborhoods for areas with shaded streets like Santa Cruz.

July in Seville: Extreme Heat, Empty Streets at Midday

July is Seville’s hottest and driest month. Highs average 36°C (97°F) but days above 40°C (104°F) occur regularly, with 2mm of rain (essentially zero). The city empties between 14:00 and 18:00 as locals retreat indoors. You’ll get 12 hours of sun. If you visit in July, plan sightseeing from 9:00-13:00 and 19:00-22:00, with air conditioning or pool time in between. Carry water constantly. The upside: tourist numbers actually drop from June as many travelers find the heat unbearable. Hotel prices remain at premium levels despite the exodus.

August: As Hot as July with Slightly More Rain

August matches July’s 36°C (97°F) highs, with lows actually warmer at 22°C (72°F). Rain increases to just 6mm. Many small, non-touristy restaurants close for 2-4 weeks as Sevillanos flee to the coast. The city feels half-empty during the day but comes alive after sunset.

This is the only month where the Seville climate makes most travelers reconsider: if you don’t tolerate extreme heat, August in Seville is actively unpleasant. Visit only if tied to specific dates.

September: Still Hot but Cooling Toward Month’s End

September delivers highs of 32°C (90°F) and lows of 19°C (66°F). Rain increases to 22mm over 2 days. The first half of September still feels like summer; the second half brings noticeable cooling, especially in the evenings. Tourism remains strong through mid-month before tapering. This is a transitional month where you can still use hotel pools but sightsee more comfortably than in July or August.

October Weather in Seville: Autumn Arrives with Rain

October brings relief with highs of 26°C (79°F) and lows of 15°C (59°F). Rain jumps to 78mm over 6 days as autumn storms arrive from the Atlantic. The city feels comfortable again for walking and outdoor exploration. Sun drops to 7 hours. This is the start of Seville’s second high season for tourism, with pleasant temperatures and manageable crowds. The Bienal de Flamenco runs in even-numbered years (next: 2026, typically September-October).

November: The Wettest Month

November is Seville’s rainiest month at 91mm over 7 days. Highs fall to 20°C (68°F) and lows to 10°C (50°F). Sunshine drops to 5 hours. The city’s orange trees display ripe fruit. Tourist numbers decline sharply after the October high season, and hotel prices follow. Pack a rain jacket and layers. Despite the rain, daytime temperatures remain pleasant by northern European standards.

December: Mild Winter with Christmas Festivities

December brings highs of 17°C (63°F) and lows of 7°C (45°F). Rain totals 85mm over 7 days. The Christmas lights and nativity scenes (belenes) in Seville are among Spain’s finest. Hotel prices spike around Christmas and New Year but remain moderate for the first three weeks. You’ll need a warm jacket but can enjoy outdoor cafe seating on sunny afternoons. The city center fills with holiday shoppers and the Feria del Belén (nativity scene market) near the cathedral.
