Colombia’s climate is determined by altitude rather than seasons, with temperatures dropping about 6°C per 1,000m of elevation gain. Bogota at 2,640m has eternal spring: 9-19°C year-round with rain possible any day (two wetter periods: April-May and October-November). Medellin at 1,495m is the city of eternal spring: 18-28°C year-round with afternoon showers common. Cartagena on the Caribbean coast is hot and humid year-round at 25-32°C, with the driest months from December to April. The Amazon region (Leticia) is hot (25-33°C) and humid year-round with rain heaviest from December to May. The best time for most of Colombia is December to March and July to August, the two driest periods across the Andean region.
