Kashgar is visitable all year, but the experience shifts hard with the season. The short version: September and October have the best weather, April and May bring flowers and dust, summer is hot but hosts the big Islamic festivals, and winter is cold, quiet, and cheap. Concrete monthly numbers are in the Kashgar weather by month guide; here is when to go and why. For the complete destination overview, start with our Kashgar guide.

Best Time to Visit Kashgar: September to October

September and October are the best months to visit Kashgar. Daytime highs run 20 to 26°C (68 to 80°F), skies are clear, and the spring dust is long gone. October adds golden poplar foliage around the oasis and along the roads toward the Pamirs. This is peak season, so flights from Urumqi and hotels in the Old Town cost more and book out earlier. October 1 to 7 is China’s National Day Golden Week, when domestic tourism spikes and room rates climb sharply; avoid that week if you can.

Best Time to Visit Kashgar: April to May

April and May are a solid second choice. Temperatures warm from 22°C (72°F) highs in April to 26.5°C (80°F) in May, and the oasis turns green. The catch is dust: April and early May are the peak months for Taklamakan sand and dust storms, which can reduce visibility and irritate eyes and lungs. May is also the wettest month, though at 11 mm that still means mostly dry days. Nowruz on March 21 and the surrounding week offer a genuine cultural payoff if you can time the spring leg around it.

Best Time to Visit Kashgar: June to August

June through August is hot, with July highs averaging 31.9°C (89°F) and the record at 41°C (106°F). The heat is dry, so mornings and evenings stay workable, but midday is for shade and tea. Summer is when the two big Islamic holidays can fall: Roza Heyt (Eid al-Fitr) at the end of Ramadan and Corban (Eid al-Adha) about 70 days later. Both follow the Islamic lunar calendar and shift roughly 11 days earlier each Gregorian year, so check the events and festivals page for the current dates. If your trip is summer, plan the Old Town for early morning and evening. For the full sight list with hours, see the things to do in Kashgar guide.

Best Time to Visit Kashgar: November to March

November to March is the low season, and the trade is real: temperatures average -5.2°C in January with lows around -10.5°C (13°F). The upside is the lowest airfares and hotel rates of the year, empty Old Town lanes, and mostly clear, sunny days. The Kashgar neighborhoods are at their quietest, and you will have the Id Kah square largely to yourself. Avoid winter only if you cannot handle sub-zero mornings or if you wanted the Karakul Lake day trip, which is icy and often wind-scoured until spring.

Best Time to Visit Kashgar: Balancing Weather and Prices

If you are juggling cost against comfort, the sweet spot is the second half of September and the first half of October, after the worst heat and before Golden Week. For the lowest prices with acceptable weather, late April and early May work, dust aside. Whichever season you pick, see the travel tips and FAQ for packing and permit notes, and the where to stay guide for the best districts by season.
