Trancoso’s calendar is front-loaded into summer: New Year and Carnival are the two biggest draws, with the São João festivals in June as the winter highlight. Between these, the village runs on a quieter rhythm of full-moon parties and beach club DJ sets. For the best weather to pair with each event, check the best time to visit Trancoso guide.

Trancoso Events and Festivals: December and January

Reveillon (New Year’s Eve)

December 31 is the biggest night of the year in Trancoso. Beach parties run from the late afternoon until sunrise, and the Quadrado hosts ticketed dinners and live music. Prices for the where to stay in Trancoso options peak here, with minimum stays of five to seven nights common, so book by September if you want a room.

Festa de São Sebastião

January 20 is the feast of Saint Sebastian, the town’s patron saint, marked by a mass at the Igreja de São João Batista and a procession around the Quadrado. It is a local, family-focused celebration rather than a big party, and it gives a good look at Trancoso beyond the beach clubs.

Trancoso Events and Festivals: February to April

Carnival

Carnival falls in February or early March, depending on the church calendar, and Trancoso celebrates with street parties and bloco parades through the Quadrado rather than the massive samba-school parades of Rio or Salvador. Nearby Porto Seguro, about 30km north, runs one of Bahia’s largest Carnival circuits if you want a bigger scale. Book accommodation early; it is the second-busiest period after New Year. The Trancoso travel guide hub links every article in this series.

Semana Santa (Holy Week)

The week before Easter brings a surge of Brazilian visitors on holiday, with Good Friday and Easter Sunday services at the Quadrado church. Prices rise above the shoulder-season norm, and the Trancoso neighborhoods fill up, so reserve meals and transfers in advance.

Trancoso Events and Festivals: May to September

Festas Juninas (São João)

The June festivals, peaking on the nights of June 23 and 24, bring forró music, bonfires, and stalls selling corn-based food like canjica and pamonha to the Quadrado. It is the biggest celebration of the winter season and pairs with the drier, cooler weather of the Trancoso weather by month article’s July to September stretch.

Trancoso Events and Festivals: October and November

October and November are the quiet shoulder months, when beach clubs and pousadas host weekend DJ sets and full-moon parties aimed at a smaller crowd. It is a good time to see the town at low season prices before the December rush.
