Foshan spreads across five districts, but visitors spend most of their time in three: Chancheng for history, Nanhai for modern comfort and Shunde for food. Each district has distinct neighbourhoods with their own character and hotel price bands. Here is what each one is known for and who it suits. See our Foshan destination guide for the full picture.

Foshan Neighborhoods: Chancheng District

Zumiao (Ancestral Temple area)

Zumiao is the historic core, built around the Ancestral Temple and its surrounding pedestrian streets. It is the most convenient base for sightseeing, with Lingnan Tiandi’s restored shophouses, the temple and Liang’s Garden all within walking distance, and it holds most of the sights in our things to do in Foshan guide. Hotels here range from 200 CNY budget inns to 800-plus CNY five-star towers. Best for first-time visitors and short stays.

Shiwan

Shiwan, west of Zumiao, is Foshan’s ceramics district, home to the Nanfeng Ancient Kiln and hundreds of pottery studios. It is quieter than the centre and much cheaper, with guesthouses from 150 CNY. It suits ceramics enthusiasts and anyone wanting a slower, more local feel.

Foshan Neighborhoods: Nanhai District

Guicheng

Guicheng is Nanhai’s main commercial centre and effectively Foshan’s new CBD, directly across the river from Guangzhou. It holds the Foshan Marriott and InterContinental, plus big shopping malls, and sits on the Guangfo metro line for a 30-minute ride into Guangzhou. Rooms run 400 to 900 CNY. Best for business travellers and shoppers, who should also check our best time to visit Foshan guide to dodge the Canton Fair price spikes.

Qiandeng Lake

Qiandeng Lake, just south of Guicheng, is the city’s showpiece residential and leisure district, built around an artificial lake with an evening light show. It is green, walkable and family-friendly, with mid-range hotels from 350 CNY. Best for families and joggers.

Foshan Neighborhoods: Shunde District

Daliang

Daliang is Shunde’s old town and the heart of its food scene, famous for double-skin milk, raw fish and Cantonese home cooking. Qinghui Garden and the historic Qinghui Road food streets are here, along with the Sheraton and Hilton Shunde. Rooms run 300 to 700 CNY. Best for food-focused travellers, with metro links explained in our Foshan travel tips guide.

Ronggui

Ronggui, south of Daliang, is a manufacturing and ceramics hub with cheaper hotels from 200 CNY. It is close to Bruce Lee’s ancestral home in Jun’an and suits budget travellers using Shunde as a base for day trips; our Foshan weather by month guide shows the rainiest months to avoid.
