Jinan’s draw is its water: the city sits above an artesian basin that feeds 72 named springs, and nearly every major sight clusters around them in the Lixia District old town. These are the attractions worth your time, with current prices and hours.

Baotu Spring is the city’s signature sight and the most famous of the 72 springs, with three jets that shoot water a meter into the air. Entry costs 40 CNY, and it is open 7:00 to 19:00 from April to October and 7:00 to 18:00 from October to April, at No. 1 Baotu Spring South Road. Go before 8:00 to see the pool clear of crowds, and look for the Li Qingzhao Memorial Hall inside, dedicated to the Song Dynasty poet who was born in Jinan. Read the Jinan weather by month for more detail. See the best time to visit Jinan guide before you book.

Daming Lake is a 46-hectare lake in the old town, fed by the same springs. The park itself is free and open around the clock. You pay only for extras: the Chaoran Tower viewpoint is 40 CNY and open 8:30 to 17:30, and a painted boat tour costs 50 CNY. Come at dusk to catch the tower lit against the water. Black Tiger Spring is the city’s loudest and most atmospheric spring, where water pours through three carved tiger heads into the moat. It is free and open 6:30 to 22:00. Locals still fill bottles from the taps along the moat path, so bring an empty bottle if you want to taste the spring water.

Five Dragon Pool (Wulongtan Park) packs more than two dozen springs into a small garden just west of Baotu Spring, and it is free to enter. It is quieter than Baotu Spring and a good spot to see koi and locals practicing calligraphy on the paving stones.

Thousand Buddha Mountain (Qianfo Shan) is a 285-meter hill on the south edge of the city lined with Buddhist carvings and pavilions. Entry costs 30 CNY, and the park is open 5:00 to 22:30 with tickets sold until 18:00. A one-way cable car costs 20 CNY and the downhill slide 50 CNY. From the top you get a full view of the city and, on clear days, the Yellow River.

The Shandong Museum is free and holds one of China’s best provincial collections, including Neolithic Dawenkou pottery, Shang Dynasty bronze, and Han Dynasty jade. Book a free timed ticket online in advance through the official WeChat account, and allow two to three hours.

Furong Ancient Street (Furong Jie) is the old town’s snack strip, running north from Quancheng Road toward Daming Lake. Expect Shandong pancakes, braised pork rice, and fried dough twists from stalls that stay open into the night. Main-street prices run 20 to 40 CNY per snack; turn into a side alley and the same food costs about 30 percent less.

Qushuiting Street is a narrow canal-side lane south of Daming Lake where spring water still runs along the cobbles. It is free and best walked in the early morning, before the souvenir stalls open, when you can watch residents washing vegetables in the clear water.
