Zhengzhou spreads across a large urban area, but most visitors stay in one of three central districts: Erqi, Jinshui, and the newer Zhengdong CBD to the east. Here is a breakdown of the main neighborhoods in Zhengzhou, what each is known for, who it suits, and typical hotel rates. For specific hotel picks in each area, see our where to stay in Zhengzhou guide, or read the main Zhengzhou travel guide for the full overview.
Neighborhoods in Zhengzhou: Central Districts
Erqi District
Erqi District is the old commercial core, centered on Erqi Square and the Erqi Memorial Tower, and it holds Zhengzhou Railway Station, the city’s main conventional rail hub. It suits budget travelers and shoppers: the streets around the square are dense with department stores and food stalls, and the area has the highest concentration of inexpensive hotels, with rates commonly 200 to 400 RMB a night. It is loud and busy, but you are a short metro ride from everything. Check our things to do in Zhengzhou list for the nearby Erqi Tower and temples.
Jinshui District
Jinshui District, north of Erqi, is the financial and political center, home to the Henan Museum, People’s Park, and most of the city’s five-star hotels. It suits business travelers and anyone who wants a quieter, more upscale base, with broad avenues and better air than the shopping core. Hotel rates here run 500 to 1,000 RMB a night at the international chains. Several hotels offer winter discounts, as noted in our best time to visit Zhengzhou guide.
Guancheng Hui District
Guancheng Hui District wraps around the eastern side of the old center and is Zhengzhou’s Muslim quarter, known for its Hui-run food streets, halal restaurants, and the City God Temple. It suits food-focused travelers who want to eat well cheaply, with noodle shops and grilled skewer stalls open late. Hotels are mid-range, mostly 250 to 450 RMB a night. The Shang dynasty ruins run through this district.
Neighborhoods in Zhengzhou: New Development Zones
Zhengdong New District (CBD)
Zhengdong New District, east of the center, is the modern business district built around a large artificial lake and the 280-meter ‘Big Corn’ tower, and it contains the Zhengzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center. It suits business travelers and those taking early high-speed trains, since Zhengzhou East Railway Station sits at its edge. Hotels are newer and often good value, from 400 to 800 RMB a night at four- and five-star properties. It is quieter and greener than the old center but a 20- to 30-minute metro ride from the historic sights.
Huiji District (North)
Huiji District stretches north toward the Yellow River and is the launch point for the Yellow River Scenic Area. It suits travelers who want easy access to the river and a more residential pace, though it is far from the main sights and has fewer international hotels. Expect local chains in the 200 to 350 RMB range. Use it as a base only if the Yellow River is your main priority, and check the Zhengzhou weather by month guide before planning river visits.
To decide where to base yourself, match the district to your budget and itinerary, and check the transport connections in our Zhengzhou travel tips and FAQ page.
