Tequila sits at 1,180 meters (3,871 ft) in the highlands of western Jalisco, about 65 km northwest of Guadalajara. The town has a semi-arid subtropical highland climate with two clear seasons: a dry season from November through May and a rainy season from June through October that delivers most of the roughly 950 mm of annual rainfall. Days stay warm all year, but the altitude means nights drop sharply, so pack a jacket for after dark even in July.

Tequila Weather by Month: Climate Overview

Tequila’s average annual temperature runs about 21°C (70°F), with daytime highs that rarely fall below 25°C (77°F) in the coldest month. Because the town sits on a volcanic plateau surrounded by blue agave fields, mornings are cool, afternoons are hot, and rain falls almost exclusively as afternoon or evening thunderstorms between June and October. Tequila Weather by Month: Dry Season (November to May)

From November through May the sky is mostly clear and rain is rare. November nights cool to about 11°C (52°F), and December and January are the coolest months, with highs of 25°C (77°F) and lows of 8°C (46°F). February and March warm up fast, reaching highs of 27 to 30°C. May is the hottest month at 34°C (93°F) by day but still gets only about 28 mm of rain. This is the best window for distillery tours and agave-field walks, since the trails stay dry and dusty instead of muddy.

Tequila Weather by Month: Rainy Season (June to October)

June to October brings almost 80% of the annual rain, peaking in July at 230 mm and August at 215 mm. The rain falls as short, heavy afternoon storms that usually clear by evening, so mornings stay usable for sightseeing. Humidity climbs to 70 to 80%, and daytime highs ease back to 28 to 32°C (82 to 90°F). The countryside turns green, and the agave fields are at their most vivid in August and September, though unpaved roads can get slick. Packing the right layers makes a real difference, so check our travel tips and FAQ before you go.

Tequila Weather by Month: Humidity and Sunshine

Relative humidity runs 40 to 50% in the dry season and 70 to 80% in the rainy season. Tequila gets about 2,700 sunshine hours a year, among the sunniest spots in Jalisco. The high altitude means strong UV, so sunscreen is non-negotiable even on cloudy afternoons. Tequila Weather by Month: Agave Fields and Distillery Visits

Distilleries run tours indoors all year, so the rainy season doesn’t shut down the main attractions. The blue agave landscape looks different by season: silver-green and dusty in March and April, then lush after the July and August rains.
