Gubbio sits at 522 metres on the lower slopes of Monte Ingino in Umbria, which gives it a cooler, sharper climate than the valley towns below. The town averages 2.7°C in January and 21.6°C in July, with about 919mm of rain spread across the year. November is the wettest month at 112mm, while July is the driest at 41mm. Snow falls most winters, and the hilltop position means evenings stay cool even in summer, so pack a light layer from June to August. For the ideal dates to come, see our best time to visit Gubbio guide.

Gubbio Weather by Month: Snow, Sunshine and What to Pack

Snow is most likely in January and February, though heavy falls are rare in the town centre itself. The sunniest stretch runs from June to August at 11 to 12 hours a day, while November and December drop to 4 to 5 hours. Pack layers year-round: a warm coat and waterproof shoes from November to March, a light jacket for May and September evenings, and sunscreen plus a hat for the exposed, sunny walk up to the Basilica di Sant’Ubaldo in summer.
