Best Time to Visit Phoenix for Weather
For pleasant weather, target November through April. November averages a high of 24°C (75°F), December through February sit at 19°C to 22°C (66°F to 71°F), and by April the daily high reaches 30°C (86°F) with almost no rain. March and April are the standout months: highs in the 26°C to 30°C (78°F to 86°F) range, lows of 12°C to 16°C (54°F to 61°F), and only about 6mm of rain in April. Summer is by far the cheapest time to stay in Phoenix. From June through September, downtown and resort hotels cut rates by 40 to 60 percent, and a four-star Scottsdale resort that runs US$350 to US$500 a night in February can drop to US$150 to US$220. Flights into Phoenix Sky Harbor are also lowest in summer. The tradeoff is the heat, but if you stick to pools, malls, and air-conditioned museums it can work. The better value for most travelers is the shoulder seasons: April and late October to early November, when prices sit 20 to 30 percent below winter peak but the weather is still comfortable.
Best Time to Visit Phoenix for Fewer Crowds
Phoenix crowds peak twice: February through March for Cactus League spring training and snowbird season, and the week of the Waste Management Phoenix Open, held the first week of February in Scottsdale. If you want quiet trails and empty museums, go in November or in May. November has near-perfect 24°C (75°F) days before the winter rush, and May is warm (35°C / 95°F) but manageable early in the day and noticeably less crowded than spring. Early December, before the Christmas-week surge, is another low-crowd window with mild weather.
Best Time to Visit Phoenix for Events
If you are visiting for a specific event, time the trip around it. Spring training runs from late February through late March across ten Cactus League ballparks, and the Waste Management Phoenix Open golf tournament fills the first weekend of February.
