Denver’s event calendar is anchored by the National Western Stock Show in January and the Great American Beer Festival in the fall, with street festivals filling the summer. Most outdoor events cluster from May through October to take advantage of the dry weather, so check the best time to visit guide to line up your dates with the weather.

Denver Events and Festivals: Winter and Spring

National Western Stock Show

This rodeo and livestock show runs for 16 days starting around the second week of January at the National Western Complex (4655 Humboldt St). Expect professional rodeo (ProRodeo), horse shows, a trade expo, and western art. Single-day grounds admission runs around US$20 with rodeo tickets US$30 and up. It’s Denver’s biggest January draw, so book rooms early, and check the where to stay guide for nearby hotels.

Denver Restaurant Week

Held for ten days in late February or early March, Denver Restaurant Week offers multi-course prix fixe menus at US$25, US$35, or US$45 across hundreds of restaurants. Participation list and menus go live on the Visit Denver site about a month before. It’s the cheapest way to try higher-end spots, and tables at popular places book out within days.

Parade of Lights

The 9NEWS Parade of Lights steps off in early December along the downtown streets around Civic Center, with illuminated floats, marching bands, and a Santa finale. It’s free to watch from the sidewalk, with grandstand seats sold separately. Bundle up: December nights average -8°C (18°F), as covered in our weather by month guide.

Denver Events and Festivals: Summer

Denver PrideFest

One of the largest Pride events in the country, PrideFest takes over Civic Center Park for a weekend in late June, with a Saturday festival and a Sunday parade starting at Cheesman Park. It’s free to attend. Nearby hotels fill 2 to 3 months ahead, and the Sunday parade along Colfax Avenue draws several hundred thousand people.

Colorado Dragon Boat Festival

This two-day festival at Sloan’s Lake Park (W Byron Pl and Sheridan Blvd) in July focuses on Asian and Asian-American culture, with dragon boat races, food vendors, and performance stages. Admission is free. It usually lands on a mid-July weekend; races run on the lake both days with teams from across the region.

Cherry Creek Arts Festival

Held over the July 4 weekend on streets in the Cherry Creek North shopping district, this juried fine-arts festival shows work from over 250 artists, with food trucks and live music. Entry is free. It’s a good pairing with shopping since the Cherry Creek shopping mall sits a block away, in the district we cover in the neighborhoods guide.

Denver Events and Festivals: Fall Food and Beer

Great American Beer Festival

GABF fills the Colorado Convention Center (700 14th St) over a long weekend in late September or early October with more than 1,000 breweries pouring 4,000 plus beers. Tickets go on sale in July and sell out within a day, often US$95 for members and US$125 for the general public per session. If you miss tickets, dozens of taprooms host side events that same week.

Denver Film Festival

Running about ten days in early to mid-November, DFF screens independent and international films across venues including the Sie FilmCenter (2510 E Colfax Ave) and Ellie Caulkins Opera House. Individual tickets run US$12 to US$20, with festival passes available. It’s the city’s main cinema event and a good indoor option as the weather turns. Between events, the things to do guide lists year-round attractions, and the travel tips guide covers practical logistics.
