Valladolid sits on a high plateau at 698 metres (2,290 feet) in northwestern Spain’s Castile and León region, giving it a continental Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and cold winters punctuated by frequent frost. The city receives just 435mm of rain annually, making it Spain’s driest provincial capital. The Pisuerga River runs through the city but does little to moderate the extremes: expect 30°C (86°F) July afternoons and January nights dropping to 0°C (32°F) with 60 to 70 frost days per year. If you are planning a trip, knowing the month-by-month breakdown helps you pack right and time outdoor tapas crawls for the best weather windows.
