One of the better months. Highs hit 18°C (64°F) with 85 mm of rain across 13 days. Sea warms to 15°C (59°F). San Lorenzo Beach begins attracting sunbathers on sunny days. The La Ascensión festival fills Plaza Mayor.
June
Highs reach 21°C (70°F) and rain drops to just 55 mm (9 days). Sea temperature climbs to 17°C (63°F). Noche de San Juan (June 23) brings bonfires on the beach. Nearly 16 hours of daylight.
July
Warmest and driest month. Highs of 23°C (73°F), lows of 16°C (61°F), only 45 mm of rain across 8 days. Sea temperature reaches 19°C (66°F). San Lorenzo Beach is packed. The Fiesta del Carmen (July 16) honours the city’s fishing heritage with a maritime procession.
August
Similar to July at 23°C (73°F) highs with slightly more rain (55 mm, 9 days). Sea peaks at 20°C (68°F). Semana Grande takes over the city in the first half of August with concerts, fireworks, and the traditional Asturian cider pour. Hotels are at their fullest and rates highest.
September
Still warm at 22°C (72°F) highs, but rain increases to 70 mm. Sea remains 19°C (66°F). The beaches thin out after the first week. An excellent month for coastal walks along the Cerro de Santa Catalina.
October
Highs drop to 19°C (66°F) and rain jumps to 110 mm across 13 days. Sea temperature cools to 17°C (63°F). The surrounding hills turn gold. Good month for indoor attractions like the Laboral Ciudad de la Cultura.
November
The wettest month at 130 mm across 14 rainy days. Highs of 15°C (59°F), lows of 9°C (48°F). The Gijón International Film Festival (FICX) runs in November. Daylight shrinks to 9.5 hours.
December
Highs of 13°C (55°F), lows of 8°C (46°F), with 120 mm of rain. Sea drops to 13°C (55°F). The Christmas market sets up in Plaza Mayor from early December. Snow is extremely rare in the city; nearby Picos de Europa mountains get reliable snow from December to April.
