Agadir Weather by Month

Morocco Souss-Massa Agadir

Agadir has a hot semi-arid climate (Köppen BSh) tempered by the cold Canary Current flowing along Morocco’s Atlantic coast. This creates one of the most reliably pleasant climates in North Africa: mild winters, warm summers, and over 300 days of sunshine per year. The city averages just 250 mm (10 inches) of rain annually, almost all of it falling between November and March. The Atlantic Ocean moderates temperatures year-round, keeping highs below 30°C (86°F) even in mid-summer. Sea temperatures range from 16°C (61°F) in February to 22°C (72°F) in August. Agadir’s coastal location also means morning fog and low cloud are common in summer, typically burning off by 10:00 to 11:00.

Agadir Weather by Month: Monthly Breakdown

January

Average high 21°C (70°F), average low 8°C (46°F). January is Agadir’s coldest month, though daytime temperatures remain pleasant for the beach. Expect roughly 30 mm of rain over 4 days and about 7 hours of daily sunshine. Sea temperature averages 17°C (63°F). Evenings are cool enough that you will want a jacket. Hotel rates are at their lowest, and the city is quiet compared to the summer crush. The almond trees in the Souss Valley begin blooming in late January.

February

Average high 22°C (72°F), average low 10°C (50°F). Slightly warmer than January. Roughly 25 mm of rain over 3 days. Daily sunshine increases to 8 hours. Sea temperature dips to its annual minimum at 16°C (61°F). This is a good month for hiking and inland excursions since temperatures are comfortable and the Anti-Atlas mountains are green after winter rains.

March

Average high 23°C (73°F), average low 11°C (52°F). Rainfall drops to roughly 25 mm over 3 days. Sunshine averages 9 hours daily. Sea temperature rises to 17°C (63°F). The landscape is at its greenest after winter rains. March marks the start of the shoulder season: warm enough for sunbathing, cool enough for comfortable sightseeing, and hotel prices remain moderate.

April

Average high 23°C (73°F), average low 13°C (55°F). A very dry month at roughly 15 mm of rain over 2 days. Daily sunshine reaches 10 hours. Sea temperature warms to 17°C (63°F). April is one of the best months to visit Agadir: warm but not hot, almost no rain, moderate hotel prices, and the beaches are less crowded than summer.

May

Average high 25°C (77°F), average low 15°C (59°F). Rainfall is negligible at 5 mm. Sunshine averages 10 to 11 hours daily. Sea temperature reaches 18°C (64°F). Beach season begins in earnest. The coastal fog (known locally as la couche) becomes more frequent in the mornings but dissipates by mid-morning. Hotel rates begin their seasonal climb.

June

Average high 27°C (81°F), average low 17°C (63°F). Effectively no rain (1 mm or less). Daily sunshine reaches 11 hours. Sea temperature warms to 19°C (66°F). Morning coastal fog continues but burns off quickly. The Timitar Festival, celebrating Amazigh (Berber) music, takes place in June or early July. Hotel rates approach their summer peak.

July

Average high 29°C (84°F), average low 19°C (66°F). The hottest and driest month. Essentially zero rainfall. Daily sunshine peaks at 11 to 12 hours. Sea temperature reaches 21°C (70°F). The Atlantic breeze keeps the beachfront comfortable even at peak afternoon heat. This is peak tourist season: book hotels and flights at least two to three months ahead.

August

Average high 30°C (86°F), average low 19°C (66°F). Similar to July but sea temperature is warmest of the year at 22°C (72°F). Roughly 1 mm of rain. Morning fog persists but clears by mid-morning. Moroccan families take their holidays in August, so the beach and Marina areas are especially busy. The Candle Festival in the Oufella Kasbah area is a highlight.

September

Average high 28°C (82°F), average low 18°C (64°F). Rainfall remains minimal at 5 mm. Sunshine dips slightly to 9 to 10 hours. Sea temperature is still warm at 21°C (70°F). September is arguably the best month in Agadir: summer crowds thin out, hotel prices drop, the ocean is at its warmest, and the weather is reliably sunny with less morning fog than July or August.

October

Average high 26°C (79°F), average low 16°C (61°F). The first real rain since spring arrives at roughly 25 mm over 2 to 3 days. Sunshine averages 8 to 9 hours. Sea temperature remains comfortable at 20°C (68°F). October offers great value: genuinely warm weather, fewer tourists, and hotel rates significantly below summer peaks.

November

Average high 24°C (75°F), average low 12°C (54°F). The wettest month at roughly 35 mm over 4 days. Sunshine averages 7 hours. Sea temperature drops to 19°C (66°F). November daytime temperatures are still warm enough for sunbathing on sunny days, but evenings require a jacket. The Agadir International Marathon takes place in November.

December

Average high 21°C (70°F), average low 9°C (48°F). The second-wettest month at roughly 40 mm over 4 to 5 days. Sunshine averages 7 hours. Sea temperature is 17°C (63°F). Days remain mild and often sunny, but nights are chilly. Christmas and New Year see a spike in European visitors escaping northern winters. Book accommodation early for the holiday period.
