Temperatures begin to rise, with highs reaching 27°C (81°F) and lows of 12°C (54°F). Still very comfortable for outdoor sightseeing. Rainfall remains minimal at 5mm. The desert sky is typically clear, making this an excellent month for photography of the blue city from Mehrangarh’s ramparts. The Jodhpur Flamenco and Gypsy Festival often takes place in February. March
Spring arrives with noticeably warmer temperatures: highs of 33°C (91°F) and lows of 18°C (64°F). The heat begins to build by mid-month, but mornings remain pleasant. Rainfall stays low at 3mm. The hottest month of the year. Average highs reach 42°C (108°F) with extreme days hitting 45°C (113°F). Even nighttime lows stay at 29°C (84°F), offering little relief. Rainfall is 12mm. Occasional pre-monsoon dust storms (known locally as aandhi) whip through the city, dropping visibility to near zero for 20 to 30 minutes. Rainfall peaks at 108mm (4.3 inches), the wettest month of the year, though rain typically comes in short afternoon downpours rather than all-day drizzle. Humidity is high at 70%. The desert landscape briefly turns green, a striking contrast to the arid brown of other months. Few tourists visit, and the city feels local and quiet.
August
Similar to July: highs of 34°C (93°F), lows of 26°C (79°F), rainfall of 98mm. Cloud cover keeps daytime temperatures down but the humidity (75%) makes it feel sticky. The Mehrangarh Fort looks dramatic against stormy skies, and the surrounding desert blooms briefly with wild vegetation. August is low season with excellent hotel deals.
September
The monsoon retreats. Highs reach 36°C (97°F) and lows are 25°C (77°F), with rainfall dropping to 55mm. Humidity begins to decrease as the month progresses. By late September, the weather starts becoming more comfortable for sightseeing. Tourist numbers remain low, making this a good shoulder-season window for travelers who do not mind some residual heat.
October
The start of the tourist season. Highs drop to 34°C (93°F) and lows to 20°C (68°F). Rainfall falls to just 8mm. The desert air dries out and the sky returns to a clear deep blue. By mid-October, daytime temperatures are warm but manageable, and evenings become pleasant enough for rooftop dining. November
Prime tourist season. Highs average 29°C (84°F), lows 14°C (57°F), with near-zero rainfall (2mm). Days are sunny and warm, evenings are cool and crisp. December
Cool and dry: highs of 26°C (79°F), lows of 10°C (50°F), rainfall of 1mm. Days are pleasant for sightseeing but bring warm layers for the cold desert nights. Jodhpur Weather by Month: Practical Tips
- Jodhpur sees only 14 rain days per year on average. An umbrella is rarely necessary outside of July and August.
- The desert temperature swing between day and night is significant. Even in October, pack a light jacket for evenings.
- Summer power cuts are common in the old city. Most mid-range and luxury hotels have backup generators, but budget guesthouses may not.
- Tap water is not safe to drink year-round. Stick to bottled water (Bisleri and Aquafina are widely available, Rs 20 for 1 litre).
- The best light for photographing the blue houses of Brahmapuri is in the golden hour before sunset (around 16:30 to 17:30 in winter, 17:30 to 18:30 in summer).
