Cozumel’s lodging runs from US$40-per-night guesthouses in San Miguel to US$500-plus all-inclusive beachfront resorts. The island has roughly 50 hotels and resorts concentrated in three main zones: San Miguel (walkable town center, no beach), the North Hotel Zone (resorts on the west coast close to town), and the South Hotel Zone (quieter, closer to dive sites). The east coast has no hotels. Your choice of zone affects almost everything about your trip: whether you can walk to dinner, how long the boat ride to the reef takes, and whether you hear cruise ship announcements in the morning. Here is a breakdown by area with specific hotel recommendations. See our weather by month.
Where to Stay in Cozumel: San Miguel
San Miguel is Cozumel’s downtown and the only part of the island where you can walk to restaurants, bars, dive shops, and the ferry terminal. Streets are arranged in a numbered grid (avenidas run parallel to the waterfront, calles run perpendicular). The waterfront malecΓ³n along Rafael Melgar Avenue has the ferry pier, cruise piers, and a handful of waterfront restaurants. Avenida 5 and Avenida 10, one and two blocks inland, are where most of the action is: taquerias, coffee shops, dive operators, and souvenir stores. San Miguel has no swimmable beaches; the waterfront is limestone ironshore with ladders into the water at a few points. Most divers and independent travelers base themselves here and take taxis to beach clubs on the west coast. See our best time to visit.

Where to Stay in Cozumel: North Hotel Zone
The North Hotel Zone runs from the northern edge of San Miguel up the west coast for about 8km (5 miles). This stretch has the highest concentration of all-inclusive resorts on the island, most with man-made sandy beach entries and calm water protected by the island’s leeward position. Resorts here are a 5 to 10-minute taxi from downtown San Miguel (MXN$80 to MXN$120, about US$4 to US$6). The zone suits travelers who want a resort vacation with organized activities and pool service. The Coralia liveaboard marina is in this zone, as is the Cozumel Country Club golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus (the only course on the island). See our things to do in Cozumel.
Suggested Hotels in North Hotel Zone
Cozumel Palace
An all-inclusive luxury resort on the waterfront 1.5km (1 mile) north of downtown San Miguel, with 169 ocean-view suites, 3 restaurants, 3 bars, a full-service spa, and a large infinity pool overlooking the sea. The resort offers daily organized activities, a kids’ club, and dive packages through its on-site dive center. Best for families and couples who want a high-end all-inclusive experience within walking distance of town. Check rates and availability
The Westin Cozumel
A 152-room resort on the north coast with a private beach, an infinity pool, a spa, and two restaurants. The Westin sits on a quieter stretch north of the main hotel cluster and has a more understated, adult-oriented atmosphere than the larger all-inclusives. Best for couples and solo travelers who want resort amenities without the all-inclusive party atmosphere. Check rates and availability
Hotel B Unique Cozumel
A mid-range beachfront hotel in the north zone with colorful decor, a pool, a beach bar, and a relaxed atmosphere that attracts a mix of divers, couples, and solo travelers. The hotel has snorkel gear and kayaks available for guest use and is a 5-minute walk from the Coralia marina for dive boat departures. Best for divers and independent travelers who want a beachfront location at mid-range prices. Check rates and availability
Where to Stay in Cozumel: South Hotel Zone
The South Hotel Zone extends from the southern edge of San Miguel down the west coast for about 15km (9 miles). This area is quieter and more spread out than the north, with larger resort properties set on wider stretches of beach. The main advantage of staying here is proximity to the Arrecifes de Cozumel Marine Park: dive and snorkel boats from southern resorts reach Palancar and Colombia reefs in 10 to 20 minutes, compared to 30 to 40 minutes from the San Miguel marina. The trade-off is that dining options outside your resort are limited and a taxi to town costs MXN$200 to MXN$300 (US$10 to US$16) each way. See our events and festivals guide.
Suggested Hotels in South Hotel Zone
InterContinental Presidente Cozumel Resort & Spa
A 220-room luxury resort on the largest private beach on the island with two pools, a full-service spa, a tennis court, and four restaurants including a beachfront seafood grill. The resort has its own dive center offering daily trips to the southern reefs 10 to 15 minutes offshore. Best for couples and divers seeking a luxury base with the shortest possible boat rides to the best dive sites. Check rates and availability
Iberostar Cozumel
An all-inclusive resort on the south coast with 298 bungalow-style rooms set in tropical gardens, a private beach, a dive center, and multiple restaurants and bars. The resort has a relaxed, nature-focused atmosphere with on-site wildlife including iguanas, flamingos, and peacocks. Best for families and divers who want a self-contained all-inclusive close to the marine park. Check rates and availability
Ventanas al Mar
A small eco-hotel on Cozumel’s east coast (the only lodging on the wild side) with 15 rooms powered by wind turbines, no air conditioning, and a remote setting on a 3km (2-mile) stretch of empty beach. The restaurant serves fresh seafood and cold beer, and the sound of the surf is constant. Best for adventurous travelers who want to disconnect completely and do not mind the lack of air conditioning or a swimming beach (the east coast surf is too rough).
