Lucca’s accommodation ranges from 14th-century palazzi turned boutique hotels to family-run B&Bs inside the walls, to modern hotels with pools in the hills just outside. The walled city has about 30 hotels; everything else is B&Bs, guesthouses, and apartment rentals. Book 2 to 3 months ahead for April through October, 6 months for Lucca Comics (late October) and the Summer Festival (July). Air conditioning isn’t universal in historic buildings: always confirm if visiting June through August.
Where to Stay in Lucca: Via Fillungo and Shopping Quarter
The busiest part of the walled city. You’re steps from the main shopping street, Piazza dell’Anfiteatro, and both medieval towers. Best for first-time visitors and anyone who wants to be central. The trade-off is street noise on Via Fillungo itself: pick a hotel on a side street within this zone.
