The best time to visit Granada is April through May and late September through October. April-May delivers temperatures of 19-24°C (67-75°F), the Alhambra’s gardens at peak bloom
manageable crowds before summer. September-October offers 22-29°C (72-84°F) with fewer tourists than summer and warm enough evenings for terrace dining in the AlbaicÃn. The worst months are July-August: 34°C (93°F) average highs, peak tourist crowds, and sold-out Alhambra tickets requiring months-advance booking. November is the wettest month (55mm) and least appealing for outdoor sightseeing.
Best Months for Good Weather in Granada
May and June offer the optimal weather. May averages 24°C (75°F) with just 5 rain days and 10 hours of daily sun. June warms to 31°C (87°F) but with only 2 rain days and the lowest humidity of the year (46%). September is also excellent at 29°C (84°F) with just 3 rain days.
April is cooler (19°C/67°F) but has spectacular garden blooms. For detailed monthly climate data, see our Granada weather by month guide.
Best Time for the Alhambra and Low Crowds in Granada
For the Alhambra specifically, November through February (excluding Christmas and New Year) has the fewest visitors. Nasrid Palaces tickets, which sell out 2-3 months in advance for summer dates, can often be found 1-2 weeks ahead in winter. The trade-off: colder weather (12-14°C/54-57°F) and a 15-20% chance of rain.
The Alhambra receives 2.7 million visitors annually, with July-August and Easter week as absolute peaks. The quietest timeslot is the 8:30 AM entry (first of the day). For ticket strategies and advance booking advice, see our things to do in Granada guide.
Sierra Nevada Ski Season in Granada
The Sierra Nevada ski resort opens late November through early May (snow conditions permitting). The best snow months are January through March. A unique Granada experience is skiing in the morning at Pradollano (2,100m-3,300m) and visiting the Alhambra in the afternoon. The resort is 32km from the city (bus from main station, EUR 9 round trip, 45 minutes).
Lift passes cost EUR 47-57 per day (EUR 37-47 for half-day). Equipment rental costs EUR 25-35 per day. The resort has 110km of pistes across 131 runs. Weekend lift queues can be long in February. For more seasonal planning, see our weather by month article.
Best Months for Low Prices in Granada
January and February (outside ski holidays) offer the lowest hotel rates. A 3-star room in the center drops to EUR 50-70 versus EUR 100-140 in May and September. November is also affordable except during the Granada Jazz Festival. Avoid Semana Santa (Easter week, March or April) when the city is packed for Spain’s most famous Holy Week processions.
Avoid the Feria del Corpus Christi (June, 60 days after Easter Sunday) when hotels fill with domestic tourists. For accommodation recommendations, see our where to stay in Granada guide.
