The Highlands (Goroka, Mount Hagen) are cooler at 10-25°C due to elevations above 1,500m, with rain possible any month. The wet season (December to April) brings the heaviest rain to coastal regions, with the northwest monsoon affecting the north coast. The best time to visit is June to September when conditions are drier and cultural festivals like the Mount Hagen Show take place in August. Diving in Milne Bay and Kimbe Bay is best from October to December and April to May during transitional periods with the best visibility.
