Chile

Chile is the world’s longest north-south country, spanning from the Atacama Desert to Patagonian glaciers. Santiago averages 8°C in July (winter) and 20°C in January (summer), with a Mediterranean climate: rain in winter, dry in summer. The Atacama Desert (San Pedro) is the driest place on Earth, with daytime temperatures of 20-25°C year-round and freezing nights in winter (June to August). The Lake District (Pucon, Puerto Varas) has a temperate climate with rain year-round, heaviest from May to August, and summer highs of 20°C. Patagonia (Torres del Paine, Punta Arenas) is best visited from November to March when temperatures reach 10-15°C and winds are slightly less ferocious. Easter Island has a subtropical climate with year-round temperatures of 18-27°C and rain possible any month.
