India’s climate spans from arid desert to tropical monsoon to alpine Himalayan, driven primarily by the summer monsoon. Delhi experiences extremes: January averages 8°C with dense fog, while May and June push above 40°C before the monsoon arrives in late June. Mumbai is tropical year-round at 24-33°C, with the heaviest monsoon rain from June to September (over 2,000mm). Kerala and Goa are best from November to March when the weather is dry and temperatures are a pleasant 25-32°C. The Himalayan regions (Shimla, Manali, Ladakh) are best visited from April to October; Leh-Ladakh’s high passes open from June to September. Rajasthan is best from October to March: days are sunny and warm (25-30°C), while nights can drop below 10°C in December and January. The monsoon hits different regions at different times: Kerala in early June, Delhi in late June, and Rajasthan in July.
