Vietnam stretches 1,650km from north to south, creating three distinct climate zones. Hanoi and the north experience four seasons: cool winters (14°C in January), hot humid summers (29°C in July), and a monsoon from May to September. Central Vietnam (Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An) has a transitional climate with rain from September to December and pleasant weather from February to May. Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta are tropical year-round at 25-35°C, with a dry season from December to April and daily afternoon downpours from May to November. The best time to visit the north is October to December and March to April; central Vietnam is best from February to May; the south is most pleasant from December to March. Typhoon season affects the central and northern coasts from July to November.
