Cozumel

Cozumel is a 48km-long (30-mile) Caribbean island 19km (12 miles) off Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, known worldwide as one of the top scuba diving destinations on the planet. Cozumel sits on the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second-largest coral reef system on Earth after Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. Cozumel has a tropical savanna climate with a dry season from November through April and a wet season from May through October. Daytime highs stay between 28°C (83°F) and 32°C (90°F) every month. Nighttime lows range from 19°C (66°F) in January to 24°C (76°F) in summer. The island receives about 1,490mm (59 inches) of rain annually, with September (240mm, 16 rainy days) and October (220mm, 15 rainy days) being the wettest months. February and March are the driest, each with only 4 to 5 rainy days. Sea temperatures stay between 26°C (79°F) in winter and 29°C (84°F) in summer. Hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30, with the highest risk from mid-August through October.

• Fall (September to November): September and October are the rainiest months (15 to 16 rainy days, 220 to 240mm each) and the statistical peak of hurricane season. Hotel rates hit their annual low. Conditions improve sharply in November: rain drops to 100mm (10 days) and hurricane risk ends by November 30. The first two weeks of November offer some of the best value on the calendar. Ironman Cozumel takes over the island in late November.
