Olbia Weather by Month

Italy Sardinia Olbia

Olbia has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters. Located on Sardinia’s northeastern coast, the city averages 2,700 sunshine hours per year and sees most of its rainfall between October and April. Sea temperatures peak at 25°C (77°F) in August, making the Costa Smeralda coast swimmable from late May through mid-October. The mistral wind from the northwest brings cooler, drier air while the sirocco from the southeast carries warm, humid conditions, particularly in spring and autumn. Olbia Weather by Month: Winter (December to February)

Winter in Olbia is mild by European standards but damp. Daytime highs reach 14°C (57°F) and nights drop to 6-7°C (43-45°F). December is the cloudiest month with only 4 hours of daily sunshine. Rainfall is heaviest in November (83 mm) but December (71 mm) and January (56 mm) are also wet. Snow is extremely rare in Olbia itself, though the Gennargentu mountains inland see occasional dustings. The mistral wind can make winter days feel significantly colder, so pack a windproof jacket. Hotel rates drop 40-60% compared to August and many beachfront restaurants close from November to March. For more detailed information, see our Olbia Events & Festivals calendar.

Olbia Weather by Month: Spring (March to May)

Spring brings rapid warming with May reaching 23°C (73°F) daytime highs and 14°C (57°F) overnight. March still averages 55 mm of rain over 10 wet days, but April drops to 51 mm and May sees only 35 mm. Sunshine increases from 6 hours in March to 9 hours in May, making late spring an excellent time for hiking in the Gallura region. Wildflowers blanket the countryside in April and early May. Sea temperatures of 15-18°C are too cold for most swimmers but suitable for windsurfing. The sirocco wind is most common in spring, bringing warm air and humidity from North Africa. Olbia Weather by Month: Summer (June to August)

Summer is hot, dry, and sunny. July and August both average 30°C (86°F) highs with 21°C (70°F) overnight lows. July is the driest month at just 7 mm of rainfall, typically spread across 1-2 days. Humidity is moderate at 65-70%. The mistral wind provides natural air conditioning on the coast but can create choppy conditions for small boats. UV index hits 8-9 in July; sunscreen and midday shade are essential. Beach parking lots fill by 10 AM in August, and restaurants on the Costa Smeralda require reservations 2-3 days ahead.
