Jaipur Weather by Month

India › Rajasthan › Jaipur

Jaipur has a hot semi-arid climate (Köppen BSh) with three main seasons: a very hot summer, a monsoon season with moderate rainfall, and a mild, dry winter. The city sits at an elevation of 431 meters (1,414 feet) in the Aravalli range, which moderates temperatures slightly compared to the surrounding Rajasthan desert. Jaipur receives 650mm of annual rainfall, nearly all of it between June and September during the southwest monsoon.

Jaipur Weather by Month: Temperature and Rainfall

The hottest months are May and June when daytime temperatures routinely exceed 40°C (104°F). January is the coldest month with overnight lows of 8°C (46°F). The monsoon arrives in late June or early July, dropping temperatures but raising humidity significantly. October through March is the most comfortable period for outdoor sightseeing.

Jaipur Winter Weather (November to February)

Winter is Jaipur’s peak tourist season for good reason. Daytime temperatures range from 22°C to 29°C (72°F-84°F), ideal for exploring Amber Fort and the City Palace on foot. Nights drop to 8°C to 13°C (46°F-55°F) so a light jacket or sweater is needed after sunset. December and January mornings often bring fog that can delay trains and flights by 2 to 4 hours. The Jaipur Literature Festival in late January draws large crowds and fills hotels months ahead. November and February are drier and slightly warmer, making them the best months overall for weather and crowd balance.

Jaipur Summer Weather (March to June)

Summer in Jaipur is extreme. April temperatures climb to 37°C (99°F) and May and June regularly hit 40°C to 45°C (104°F-113°F). The dry heat is relentless: humidity stays below 30% in April and May, and the afternoon sun makes sightseeing dangerous between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Heatstroke is a real risk. The local “loo” winds in May and June are hot, dry gusts that feel like a hair dryer on full blast. Hotel rates drop 60% to 70% compared to winter, with four-star hotels going for 2,000 to 3,500 INR ($24-$42) per night. If you visit in summer, schedule outdoor activities before 10:00 AM and after 5:00 PM, carry 2 liters of water, and wear a wide-brimmed hat. The Amer Fort light show runs at 7:00 PM and is manageable even in summer heat.

Jaipur Monsoon Weather (July to September)

The southwest monsoon reaches Jaipur by the first week of July. July and August each bring 210 to 220mm of rain over 12 rainy days. Temperatures drop significantly from June peaks, settling at 32°C to 34°C (90°F-93°F) during the day. Humidity jumps to 71% to 78%, creating a sticky heat that many find more uncomfortable than the dry summer. Rain typically comes in short, intense afternoon bursts lasting 1 to 2 hours rather than all-day drizzle. The Aravalli hills turn green and the Jal Mahal (Water Palace) in Man Sagar Lake fills with water, making it the most photogenic season for landscape shots. September sees rainfall taper to 85mm over 6 days as the monsoon retreats.
