Calangute’s event calendar is dominated by Goa’s big festivals rather than beach-town-specific happenings, but several of them play out right on or near the Calangute-Baga strip. Most run from late November through March, lining up exactly with the dry season. Here are the specific events, their approximate dates, and what to expect. For more detail, see our Calangute weather by month guide. For more detail, see our best time to visit Calangute guide.
Calangute Events and Festivals: Beach Season Parties
Christmas and New Year Beach Parties
From roughly December 24 through January 1, the beach shacks and clubs along the Calangute-Baga strip throw open-air parties that run until dawn, with New Year’s Eve the single biggest night. Cover charges appear at the larger venues on December 31 and can reach 1,000 to 3,000 INR per person; many smaller shacks stay free but require a table booking. Accommodation for this week books out by October. For more detail, see our things to do in Calangute guide. For more detail, see our Calangute neighborhoods guide.
Full Moon Parties
On the full-moon night of each month from November to April, pubs around Baga and Anjuna hold late-night trance and house-music events on the beach. These are informal, weather-permitting affairs with vouchers for drinks at the door. Check poster boards on Baga Road a few days before the full moon. Calangute Events and Festivals: Goa-wide Celebrations
Goa Carnival
Held in late February or early March (timed to Ash Wednesday, so dates move each year), Carnival parades roll through nearby Panaji, Mapusa and Margao over four days with floats, dancers and street food. Calangute residents and tourists head into Panaji for the main parade, which draws crowds that fill the riverfront. Expect the strip to be extra busy this weekend and book transport early. Start with the Calangute guide for the full overview.
Shigmo Festival
Goa’s spring festival, usually in March, marks the onset of warmer weather with processions of dancers and drummers in the village squares and larger towns. In North Goa’s beach belt the celebrations are smaller and more village-based than Carnival, but traditional floats and folk troupes still pass through Mapusa and the coastal villages around Calangute.
Calangute Events and Festivals: Monsoon and Religious Feasts
Feast of St. Alex
Calangute’s patron-saint feast falls on or near the first week of August, right in monsoon season, and centers on St. Alex Church with masses, a fair and local food stalls. It is one of the few reliable events in the wet months and gives a look at village Goa away from the tourist strip.
