Pescara Neighborhoods Guide: Where to Stay, Eat & Explore

Italy Abruzzo Pescara

Pescara is a linear city that stretches along the Adriatic coast, with most neighborhoods falling into one of three zones: the city center around the train station and Corso Umberto, the seafront lungomare strip, and the southern Pineta district. Each area has a distinct character, and choosing the right neighborhood is the single biggest factor in how your trip to Pescara plays out. See our weather by month data for more. Pescara Neighborhoods: Centro (City Center)

The Centro is the commercial and historic heart of Pescara, bounded roughly by the train station to the south, the river to the north, and the seafront to the east. If you want to be steps from shops, restaurants, and the evening passeggiata, this is your area. The pedestrianised Corso Umberto I is the main axis, lined with clothing stores, cafes, and gelaterie. The parallel Corso ManthonΓ© in Pescara Vecchia (the old town) is where you will find rustic osterie, wine bars, and arrosticini grills. See our things to do guide for more. See our events and festivals calendar for more.

Hotels in the Centro tend to be 3-star business-style properties priced at 70-110 euro per night in summer. You are a 5-10 minute walk from the beach but trades sea views for convenience. The train station (Pescara Centrale) is within walking distance, making the Centro the best base if you are using Pescara as a hub for day trips to Rome (3.5 hours by train) or the Abruzzo mountains. Pescara Neighborhoods: Lungomare (Seafront)

The lungomare (seafront promenade) is where Pescara shines as a beach destination. Hotels along Lungomare Matteotti and Viale della Riviera face the Adriatic, with the beach directly across the road. This area is busiest in July and August when the stabilimenti are full and the bars stay open late. If your priority is rolling out of bed and onto the sand, stay here. Prices are highest in this zone: expect 120-200 euro per night for a 4-star seafront hotel in August.

The lungomare is also Pescara’s cycling and jogging artery, with a dedicated bike path running the length of the coast. You can rent bikes from kiosks near the main beaches for about 5 euro per hour. Restaurants along this strip serve seafood with sea views, though quality varies: walk a few blocks inland for better value.
