Diano Marina Events and Festivals

Italy β€Ί Liguria β€Ί Diano Marina

Diano Marina’s event calendar reflects its identity as a Ligurian seaside town that values food, music, and maritime tradition. The summer months bring the biggest festivals, with the Ferragosto fireworks over the bay as the annual highlight. Autumn shifts focus to the olive harvest, with the surrounding hills producing taggiasca olives and the golden DOP Riviera Ligure extra virgin olive oil that forms the backbone of local cuisine. Winter is quieter but the Christmas season brings festive markets and warming winter food events in the town centre. Read our Diano Marina month-by-month climate data.

Diano Marina Events and Festivals: Spring and Summer

  • Festa di San Giuseppe (19 March): The feast of Saint Joseph brings the first major outdoor celebration of the year, with a street market, food stalls selling frittelle (fried dough balls), and a procession through the town centre. Local restaurants offer special fixed-price menus featuring spring vegetables and fresh seafood.
  • Sagra del Pesce (First Sunday in June): Diano Marina’s fish festival takes over the port area with stalls frying fresh anchovies, squid, and the day’s catch from local fishing boats. A large communal table runs along the harbour and a plate of mixed fried fish with a glass of Pigato costs about 10 euros. Live music continues into the evening.
  • Ferragosto (15 August): The biggest summer celebration on the Italian calendar. Diano Marina marks the day with an afternoon of beach games and swimming races, followed by a massive fireworks display launched from a barge in the bay at 10:30pm. Thousands watch from the lungomare and the beach. Book restaurants days in advance β€” the town fills completely.
  • Diano Marina Summer Music (July to August): A series of open-air concerts held in the Piazza Martiri della Liberta and on the seafront terrace. Genres range from Italian pop and jazz to tribute bands, with most concerts free and starting at 9pm.

Diano Marina Events and Festivals: Autumn and Winter

  • Festa dell’Olio Nuovo (First weekend of November): The new olive oil festival celebrates the freshly pressed taggiasca olive oil from the groves above Diano Marina. Local frantoi (olive mills) set up tasting stands in the town centre where you can sample the peppery, green-gold new oil on toasted bread for a few euros. Producers sell bottles directly and many restaurants create special menus built around the new oil.
  • Mercatino di Natale (Weekends in December): Diano Marina’s Christmas market sets up wooden stalls along Via Cavour and the pedestrian shopping streets. Sellers offer local crafts, Ligurian food products, mulled wine (vin brule), and panettone. A smaller and more relaxed affair than the larger Sanremo market 20 kilometres west, but with a genuine local feel.
  • Capodanno (31 December): New Year’s Eve brings a concert and fireworks on the seafront, with most hotels offering cenone (gala dinner) packages that include a multi-course meal, live music, and a midnight toast on the terrace. Expect to pay 80 to 120 euros per person for a seafront restaurant cenone.
