Agadir is Morocco’s premier beach destination, stretching along 10 km (6 miles) of golden sand on the Atlantic coast. Completely rebuilt after the devastating 1960 earthquake, the city is modern, spacious, and purpose-built for tourism, with wide boulevards, a sleek marina, and the largest concentration of resort hotels in Morocco. It enjoys 300-plus days of sunshine per year, with daytime highs reaching 30°C (86°F) in August and rarely dropping below 21°C (70°F) even in January. Agadir is the gateway to the Souss-Massa region: a landscape of argan forests, Berber villages, surf breaks, and the northern reaches of the Sahara. Whether you come for the beach, the surf, the culture, or the winter sun, this guide covers everything you need to plan your trip.

Agadir Weather at a Glance

Agadir has a hot semi-arid climate kept remarkably mild by the cold Canary Current flowing along the Atlantic coast. This creates one of the most reliably pleasant climates in North Africa. Summer highs average 27°C to 30°C (81-86°F); winter highs hover around 21°C to 22°C (70-72°F). Rain is rare: the city averages just 250 mm (10 inches) annually, nearly all falling between November and March on 3 to 5 days per month. From April through October, you can expect essentially zero rainfall. The Atlantic Ocean is swimmable year-round, ranging from 16°C (61°F) in February to 22°C (72°F) in August. A morning coastal fog called la couche is common in summer but burns off by 10:00 to 11:00, leaving clear afternoon skies. For a detailed monthly breakdown with temperature, rainfall, and sunshine data, see our Agadir weather by month guide.

Seasonal Snapshot

  • Winter (December to February): Mild days at 21°C to 22°C (70-72°F), cool nights at 8°C to 10°C (46-50°F). A few rainy days per month. The lowest hotel prices of the year, except for Christmas and New Year. Ideal for winter sun escapes and inland excursions when the Anti-Atlas is green.
  • Spring (March to May): Warming from 23°C (73°F) in March to 25°C (77°F) in May with near-zero rain by late spring. Almond blossoms in the Souss Valley in February and March. The best season for combining beach days with day trips. Moderate hotel prices.
  • Summer (June to August): Hot and dry with highs of 27°C to 30°C (81-86°F). The warmest sea temperatures at 21°C to 22°C (70-72°F). Peak tourist season with the highest hotel rates. Morning coastal fog burns off by late morning. The Timitar music festival falls in June or July.
  • Autumn (September to November): The sweet spot. September retains summer warmth with 28°C (82°F) highs and 21°C (70°F) sea temperatures without the summer crowds. October brings 26°C (79°F) days and low hotel rates. November sees the first meaningful rain (35 mm) but days still reach 24°C (75°F).

Location and Climate Influences

Agadir sits at 30°25’N latitude on Morocco’s central Atlantic coast, at the foot of the western Anti-Atlas mountains where the Oued Souss river meets the ocean. The city is roughly 250 km (155 miles) southwest of Marrakech and 175 km (109 miles) south of Essaouira. Its climate is shaped by three factors: the cold Canary Current that flows south along the Atlantic coast, keeping summer temperatures 5°C to 8°C cooler than inland cities like Marrakech; the High Atlas mountains to the northeast, which block continental heat; and the Sahara Desert to the southeast, which occasionally sends hot, dust-laden chergui winds that can push temperatures above 35°C (95°F) for a day or two. The Anti-Atlas foothills receive enough winter rain to support argan forests, almond orchards, and the green oases of Paradise Valley.
