Calangute is Goa’s most visited beach town, a 3-km stretch of golden sand on the North Goa coast that anchors one of India’s busiest holiday strips. About 45 km from Dabolim airport, it sits between the louder Baga to the north and the calmer Candolim to the south, and acts as the default base for first-time visitors to Goa. Its tropical savanna climate means warm weather all year, with a long dry season from November to May and a heavy monsoon from June to September.
Welcome to Calangute
The town grew up around Calangute Beach, known locally for being busy, wide and walkable, backed by a permanent line of shacks, sunbed stalls and water-sports operators. Inland, the market road fills with souvenir shops, spice and cashew sellers, and restaurants that stay open late. The result is a place that is convenient and lively rather than quiet, which is exactly why it works so well as a first stop in Goa.
Calangute Weather at a Glance
Calangute averages highs of 31 to 33 C (88 to 91 F) through the dry season and 28 to 30 C (82 to 86 F) during the monsoon months. The Arabian Sea holds a steady 28 to 30 C (82 to 86 F) all year, so swimming is always warm when the surf allows. Annual rainfall is about 2,771 mm (109 in), and effectively all of it falls between June and September, which makes the dry months dramatically different from the wet ones.
Seasonal Snapshot
From November to February, expect clear skies, 10 hours of sun, and daytime highs around 31 C (88 F) with almost no rain; this is peak season. March to May turns hotter and stickier, building toward 33 C (91 F) and the first May showers. June through September brings the southwest monsoon with monthly rainfall of 600 to 880 mm, rough seas, and most beach shacks closed. October is the transitional month as the rain clears and the season restarts.
